Meraki partners earn top marks in CMNA technical training

We’re building more than just great products at Meraki—we’re also building a great community of reseller partners that can provide our customers with solutions for their IT challenges. In the past few months alone, Meraki has trained over one hundred sales engineers at partner organizations through our Certified Meraki Networking Associate (CMNA) program. We’ve held sessions in cities across the US and in our London office, and we’re continuing to look for ways to expand the program and reach even more of our partners.

Over the course of the CMNA program, pre-sales engineers get a chance to explore all four Meraki product lines: MX security appliances, MS switches, MR wireless access points, and Systems Manager mobile device management. Hands-on lab sessions cover the real-world scenarios involved in deploying a next-generation branch network for a typical company, so engineers leave with the experience and confidence to recommend and deploy Meraki networks for their customers. We’ve designed the class to be a refreshing change from typical classroom-style training, and we’ve even built in a little fun.

The labs also provide the perfect setting to showcase the tight integration among the Meraki product lines and the benefits of cloud management via the Meraki Dashboard. Participants often come into the sessions knowing only about Meraki’s wireless LAN capabilities, so it’s always fun to see their excitement as they come to understand the full potential in Meraki’s entire suite of products for edge networks.

For now, we’re keeping the CMNA sessions quite small to give participants the best possible hands-on experience and attention. Looking ahead though, we’ll be rolling out more courses and new ways to scale out training program to touch more of our partner community.

All New Dashboard Radio Settings Page

Meraki’s AutoRF technology performs automatic cloud-based, system-wide network optimization to ensure peak network performance in any environment.  Each AP on a Meraki network continually monitors its environment for interference from other APs and feeds this information back to the Cloud Controller.  Last month we added Spectrum Analysis, mitigating interference from non-WiFi devices like microwave ovens and Bluetooth headsets.

AutoRF has always run quietly in the background.  But now, our new Radio Settings page gives you more visibility into what’s happening behind the scenes, and exposes new controls for advanced configuration.

The new Radio Power selector either allows the Cloud Controller to automatically dial back transmit power if it detects adjacent access points stepping on each others’ toes, or allows you to maintain full power for all APs.

The Channel Planning Report sheds light on how AutoRF is tuning your network, providing  visibility into the current channel and transmit power settings for each AP,  as well as the interference sources that were avoided.  If you click on the “Details” link next to each row in the table, you will find a detailed report for all of the APs in your network on a particular channel.

Regular users of the Cloud Controller will notice that some settings previously found under Network Wide Settings have moved to this page, where they fit naturally.

We hope that you find this Radio Settings page helps you better understand how the Cloud Controller is optimizing your network, and helps you to make more informed decisions about how to use the Cloud Controller’s RF controls.  Please let us know what you like, what you don’t, and what you’d like to see next!

Meraki on the Road at Ingram Micro's Partner Connections Summit

Last Thursday, Meraki participated in a great event: the Ingram Micro Partner Connections Summit in Denver, Colorado.

The most remarkable observation that could be made was the clear presence of a sense of optimism throughout the conference after a year of apprehension.   We spoke to a good portion of the 225 resellers at the event, and the majority were very excited about the remainder of 2009 and 2010 based on the uptick in the level of interest that they are seeing from their customers across their product lines.  They see wireless networking as a potential growth opportunity for them for 2010, and more specifically, Meraki’s cloud-managed Wireless LANs as a great opportunity to acquire new customers or offer an innovative new solution to existing customers.

A little bit more about the event… Ingram Micro, the event organizer and sponsor (and a distributor of Meraki), is a Fortune 100 company and the world’s largest technology distributor.  They distribute and market IT products from everyone from Apple to Cisco.

The Partner Connections Summit brings together hundreds of fast-growth channel partners and IT manufacturers to discuss emerging IT trends, train on new technologies and explore a variety of partner enablement tools available exclusively to Ingram Micro channel partners.  We truly enjoyed meeting so many IT Solution Providers focused on small and medium sized businesses, and we look forward to other Ingram Micro and similar channel events in the near future!
